Warranty and Australian Consumer Law are two different things
A manufacturer or supplier warranty is a contract promise. Australian Consumer Law guarantees sit underneath it and apply regardless of what the warranty says: goods must be of acceptable quality, match their description, and be fit for the purpose you told the seller about. A warranty cannot remove those rights.
What that means in practice: if a machine sold as "fully refurbished, deck replaced" turns out to have an original deck, the warranty term is almost beside the point — the description was wrong.
What to get in writing before you pay
- Term, separately for parts and labour, and separately for the refrigeration deck.
- Whether attendance is on-site or return-to-base — and who pays freight, which matters enormously outside the capitals.
- Exclusions: consumables, misuse, power surge, vandalism, relocation by anyone other than the supplier.
- Response expectation, not just "we'll get to it".
- Who the warranty is with if the reseller closes.
